The first major departure from Stamford Bridge of the window looks like it’s just around the corner.
With the future of several players unclear, it seems like we are in the end game with one. Ian Maatsen’s time at Stamford Bridge looks like it will be coming to an end.
Fabrizio Romano has just published his trademark ‘here we go’ and the Dutch fullback will join Borussia Dortmund on loan with salary covered.
One interesting factor is the terms behind the loan. The Dutch fullback has made 12 appearances for Pochettino’s side this season, 11 coming from the bench and has just 18 months left on his current contract at Stamford Bridge.
However, Luca Bendoni, who is part of the DiMarzio team is reporting that Chelsea have included in the talks an option to extend his contract one year until June 2026. With the option being at the end of the season.
To further back Luca, Matt Law from The Telegraph has just said that Maatsen to Dortmund will have a loan fee of £2m plus the expectation is Maatsen will also sign a new Chelsea contract.
Those contract details have since been released by Fabrizio Romano once again with Maatsen signing a new contact until 2027 with a new inserted release clause in his current contract. The release clause is not known at this time.
