The transfer window opens in exactly 2 weeks, sadly the window is heading in the direction of where it was when business closed back in September.
If you can recall deadline day earlier this year you will remember that Chelsea fans were sweating on the futures of academy graduates Ian Maatsen and Conor Gallagher right down till the final second. Fast forward to December and nothing has changed.
A report in the Daily Mail last week mentioned that Chelsea were considering offers for Gallagher due to very little negotiations taking place.
The latest words from Pochettino do not give off a positive vibe around the situation, he told the media after the Sheffield United game;
“It is a decision between the player and the club, to be or not to be. He is in the starting XI nearly every game and one of the captains. For me, he is the type of player that the club need to have. He is important because of his Chelsea values. He came from the academy, he loves the club and he is very committed.”
Pochettino’s public plea perhaps won’t be enough as even today, The Athletic have relayed the Mail’s report by saying Chelsea are prepared to listen to bids next month.
No matter what your stance is on Gallagher, these current turn of events must be a concern on what goes on behind the scenes as just last month the current Chelsea captain spoke on international duty about the situation.
Gallagher told The Evening Standard; “I’m sure that (contract) will get sorted out, everyone knows Chelsea is my club and I love playing for them.”
The public stance is clear so what comes next will be interesting to observe from the outside.
