The January transfer window is beginning to heat up and with Chelsea in desperate need to balance the books due to Premier League profit and sustainably rules, the more offers for fringe players the better.
The latest player to have a move linked away is Ian Maatsen. The dutch international is entering the final 18 months of his contract and with lack of minutes and game time in his preferred position, it feels inevitable that a departure is on the cards.
Maatsen has made just 131 minutes so far this season despite being a constant name during pre season. After a deadline day bid from Burnley being accepted his value will likely have been depreciated due to Chelsea’s lack of desire to keep hold of him.
According to ESPN, Borussia Dortmund are currently tracking Ian Maatsen but it is unclear whether the ‘tracking’ phase will materialise into anything more across the next month.
With Maatsen representing ‘pure profit’ on the financial books, the academy graduate remains attractive to sell in the upcoming transfer market along with the likes of Trevoh Chalobah and even Conor Gallagher.
