With Chelsea expected to make incomings across the next two transfer windows, it’s inevitable that the outgoings will follow to balance the books and squad numbers.
One of the areas that Chelsea have reportedly been looking to strengthen is at centre back. On paper it seems like Chelsea are well stocked in that area of the pitch but Trevoh Chalobah has yet to make an appearance this season and Thiago Silva is currently 39.
We are perhaps getting a more clearer outlook of what the possible plan could be between now and the end of the season.
David Ornstein put in his latest column on The Athletic that Thiago Silva’s contract is not expected to be retained beyond the last six months of his contract.
If Silva were to leave that would mark the end of a four season stay where he has lifted the Champions League, Club World Cup and Super Cup. The Brazilian has also been involved in the clubs biggest transition in years with 2 ownerships and 4 different coaches.
If Chalobah is to be sold and Silva is to not be kept beyond the summer then Chelsea will just find themselves with Colwill, Badiashile, Disasi and Fofana. Even then it’s debatable whether Chelsea need to sign a centre back with the depth looking good on paper.
