Chelsea host Sheffield United this weekend at Stamford Bridge in what is a pivotal point in the clubs season, anything other than a victory is non negotiable for Mauricio Pochettino.
The referee for matchweek 17 has been announced and returning to Stamford Bridge for the first time since April is Andy Madley.
Madley has yet to referee a Chelsea match this season but was involved on a number of occasions last campaign. His most recent game saw Brentford beat Chelsea 2-0 and just a few weeks earlier saw Aston Villa win 2-0 at Stamford Bridge.
In total he refereed 4 matches in the 22/23 campaign, the others being a 4-1 victory for Brighton upon Graham Potter’s return and Thomas Tuchel’s final Premier League game as Chelsea boss which saw the blues beat West Ham 2-1, albeit via controversial circumstances.
Potentially a bad omen for Pochettino, Andy Madley has refereed both Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter’s final Premier League games for Chelsea.
The VAR for this fixture is Peter Bankes.
