As The Byline continues to expand, we are trying out new ways to bring unique content. This trial series is ‘On this day’ where we look back at some of the past matches/moments for good or bad which stick long in the memory and sometimes have significant moments in our history.
For January 3rd. We go back to the 2017/18 Premier League season. Chelsea were sitting 3rd whilst Arsenal occupied 6th. Chelsea might not have won the game but this went down as a Premier League thriller.
The game ended 2-2 with both teams having a combined 34 shots which saw world class saves from Courtois and Cech. Wilshere opened the scoring with Eden Hazard getting the blues back just minutes later.
Marcos Alonso thought he found the winner but Bellerín drew level in 2nd half stoppage time. Zappacosta almost won it at the end, smashing the bar.
Perhaps one of the underrated PL Classics.

The champions thought they had come from behind to win it before Bellerin’s sensational late leveller.
