With Saturday’s game just around the corner, the following suspension report has been updated for our clash against Sheffield United.
The current injury report may well be stacked with players on the sideline but the looming 1 game ban for 5 yellow cards continue to hang over the shoulder for Pochettino.
Fortunately for this specific game, Chelsea have no suspension issues to contend with but following the 2-0 defeat to Everton at the weekend, another player has entered the ‘danger zone’ of being 1 yellow card away from a ban.
Currently, Chelsea have 3 players in the danger zone, that is up 1 in the last week. Joining Enzo Fernandez and Raheem Sterling at risk is Cole Palmer, following his booking which was deemed a dive.
Before the extension of 10 yellow cards equalling a ban, Chelsea have 3 games to contend with, Sheffield United on Saturday, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Crystal Palace. In that time Chelsea also take on Newcastle in the Carabao Cup. The ban does not carry over into that competition.
The club also have 3 players close to the danger zone, the following players sit on 3 yellow cards and still could be at a risk if they pick up a booking on Saturday or against Wolves. Caicedo and Mudryk headline those who are 2 away with Ben Chilwell also being in that category but he will highly unlikely make an appearance again in 2023.
Sheffield United will be without defender Jack Robinson following his 5th yellow card of the season, coming against Brentford.
Unfortunately it is inevitable that Chelsea will fall into the trap over the coming days.
