The Premier League has just ticked over the halfway mark of the season. With Chelsea chasing European football next season despite a difficult start, Opta have updated their supercomputer estimations on where the blues will finish.

As the season progresses Chelsea’s hopes of a top 4 or a top 5 finish have began to fade. In October Opta had the blues at a 0.5% chance of making top 4, that dropped to 0.4% at the beginning of December.

As the festive fixtures have now been accounted for, the latest percentages have been released.

According to Opta, Chelsea have just a 0.2% chance of reaching 4th place.

With 5th potentially being enough for a Champions League spot, the hopes of finishing in that position sit at 0.9%. In total according to Opta, there is a 1.1% chance we see Champions League nights at Stamford Bridge.

As for the other European places, Opta place Chelsea at a 3.3% chance of 6th, a 8% chance of 7th and a 12.4% chance of coming 8th. All these league positions could result in European football so there is still so much to play for.

The highest percentage of Chelsea’s overall finish is 10th place which sits at a 19% chance. It’s up to Mauricio Pochettino and Chelsea to change this narrative in the remaining 18 league games.
