Summer signing, Christopher Nkunku made his official Chelsea debut on Tuesday as the blues knocked out Newcastle in the Carabao Cup.
Despite only playing 20 minutes on Tuesday the road to recovery has only just started, the Frenchman still has a way to go to be a starter in this Chelsea team with Pochettino calling for calmness.
Pochettino spoke to the media ahead of the festive showdown against Wolves (via PA Media). He told reporters, “I’m not going to put pressure on him. I’m so happy that he made his debut against Newcastle. We’re going to push him, to help him to perform better every day. He needs to be clever also to understand that he needs to push himself. He needs to make a double effort, double in everything. He needs to make an impact.”
With Chelsea playing three matches over the next seven days it’s unlikely that Nkunku will see a start this side of the new year as the quick turnaround could come at a high risk.
Pochettino went onto say that in the long term Nkunku will be a big part for this club.
