Penalties are always the best way to win football matches and they become even better when the goalkeeper can be the hero. Djordje Petrovic did just that on only his 2nd start at Stamford Bridge.
Petrovic had very little to do across the 90 minutes but his role went from 5 to 100mph as soon as Mudryk found an equaliser.
The former New England Revolution goalkeeper was thrown straight into the action, filling in for Robert Sanchez. For only his 3rd appearance in blue he may have just contributed to one of the biggest moments in his career.
After the game Petrovic spoke to Sky Sports, he said; “It was a very tough game. We conceded an unlucky goal. We trust in ourselves and our jobs. Mischa scored in the last minute. After that, we had the patience. I want to congratulate the team. Everyone deserves it.”
Petrovic went onto say, “I don’t hear pressure. They need to score. I can be the hero. I just did my job. That’s it.”
Petrovic and Chelsea will be hoping for more nights like last night as the blues march on into the next round.
