Over the summer, academy graduate and two time Chelsea player of the year, Mason Mount joined Manchester United in an initial £55m deal, potentially rising to £60m when you factor in add-ons.
Today the requirement behind those add-ons have been revealed and it doesn’t look like Chelsea will be seeing any additional cash anytime soon.
According to The Athletic, in order for the add-ons to be activated, Mason Mount must play at least 70% of matches in a Manchester United title winning campaign. The instalment payment is only £1m each time.
In total Mount would have to be a 5 time Premier League winner for the add-ons to be maximised.
Given Mount was in his final 12 months of his contract, £55m is a decent amount but Chelsea will likely feel sick if they ever have to receive a bonus payment from Manchester United, especially more than once.
