9 Players set to miss FA Cup clash but Leeds have issues themselves

Chelsea look to bounce back from Sunday’s disappointment in the Carabao Cup by hosting Leeds United at Stamford Bridge in the 5th round of the FA Cup.

The cup final defeat has come at a cost as Mauricio Pochettino today confirmed Nkunku is set to be on the sidelines for 3-4 weeks as a minimum.

Whoever was on the injury list prior to Sunday’s defeat remains on the list for tomorrow. This includes; Cucurella, Silva, Badiashile, Chukwuemeka, Fofana, James and Ugochukwu. Details can be found on Reece James has returned to individual training but his official return is still unknown.

As for Leeds, they seem to have a few issues themselves heading into Wednesday night. With our opponents firmly in a Championship title race and a quick turnaround it is unknown just how seriously they will treat Wednesday’s game.

Leeds boss, Daniel Farke spoke to the media yesterday ahead of the cup tie and has provided the following injury update, he said (via Yorkshire Evening Post): “Bamford showed a reaction in his calf and a hit on his ankle. Summerville rolled his ankle and it’s pretty swollen, question mark on his availability. Little bruise for Dan James, he should be available but we’ll see. Major question mark over Georginio Rutter, he has some problems with his hip flexor. We won’t risk long term injuries for this game. There will be some late decisions.”

As well as an injury update, Farke said, “Due to our schedule we won’t do anything away from our normal rhythm. It would have an effect on upcoming league games.”

Chelsea’s best hopes of European football next season may sit on winning FA Cup after failing to win the Carabao Cup. It could be a risk too far relying on the coefficient to allow 8th spot into Europe.
