Tempers flared on Tuesday night as a late fightback from Chelsea saw Newcastle crumble on penalty kicks, as Chelsea await to see who they will face next, the fallout from the game continues.
Within the first 100 seconds, Moisés Caicedo flew into a challenge on Anthony Gordon which referee, Jarred Gillet deemed as a yellow card offence. Replays show that Caicedo was perhaps lucky to still be on the pitch but with no VAR in use the original decision stood.
Newcastle boss, Eddie Howe had plenty to say on the matter after the game. He told Sky Sports; “I thought it was a really poor tackle on him and the type of tackle you don’t want to see taking one of our attacking players out of the game, and again he’s very sore at the minute.”
Howe also hit out at a tackle made by Levi Colwill on Emil Krafth which saw him unable to continue. Howe told Sky; “Emil was too sore to continue – he’s got a nasty gash on his shin which is quite sore at the moment.”
Funny how nothing was mentioned regarding the tackle on Maatsen towards the end.
