Why Chelsea’s FA Cup clash with Aston Villa has been moved

Chelsea’s FA Cup 4th round encounter against Aston Villa has been moved due to fixture clashes across the country.

The game originally due to take place on Saturday January 27th at 3pm will now take place on the day before but at 7.45pm (UK) on the 26th instead.

The game has NOT been picked for UK TV broadcast. The broadcasters have opted with Manchester City’s cup tie against Tottenham.

Chelsea have issued a statement for the reason of the change; “Friday, 26 January is the only date the match can take place. This is due to Fulham being drawn at home to Newcastle United, the scheduling of their Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Liverpool on 24 January, and Aston Villa being in Premier League action on January 30.

Arguably this is an unfair advantage for Chelsea as the blues take on Middlesbrough on the Tuesday.

In the result of the game ending level over 90 minutes, a replay will be played at Villa Park before the 5th round. This is the final round before replays are scrapped.
