Returning loanee Cesare Casadei will be made to wait for his Chelsea debut despite being recalled from Leicester City.

Casadei was recalled by the blues on Friday ahead of a crucial week of cup action, but was there purpose behind it? The Italian was due to play Ipswich on Monday in a crucial battle at the top of the Championship.

Casadei has made 22 appearances for the Championship leaders scoring 2 goals in the league. His most recent goal contribution came in Leicester’s FA Cup victory against Millwall.

As the former Inter Milan midfielder has already participated in domestic cup action, the Italian will be unable to play in either Tuesday’s Carabao Cup tie or on Friday against Aston Villa. His earliest opportunity is at the beginning of the month away to Liverpool.

Pochettino confirmed that in his press conference earlier today. He told the media (via Chelsea FC), “Tomorrow, it isn’t possible because he played in the Carabao Cup with Leicester, and for Friday he isn’t available too. In the Premier League, maybe he can be involved and part of the squad.”

It does beg the question as to why Casadei was recalled when he could have at least been on the bench for one or two more Championship fixtures.

Meanwhile, Chelsea have seen Diego Moreira’s loan at Lyon cut short and he has since returned to Cobham. Pochettino was hoping for a smaller squad by the end of the window but all of a sudden he might be dealt with one or two many names.
