Andrey Santos future loan could be impacted

Earlier this week it was confirmed that Andrey Santos had returned back to Chelsea following his abysmal loan spell at fellow Premier League side, Nottingham Forest.

With Chelsea having ideal midfield depth, minutes at Stamford Bridge are set to be limited. Caicedo, Enzo, Gallagher and Lavia all occupy that area of the pitch where his influence is bound to be impacted.

One factor that could severely damage Andrey’s chance of getting a loan move in the 2nd half of the season is representing his nation.

The Brazilian is due to meet up with his national team within the next week as he will be taking part in Olympic qualifying. The tournament runs from January 20th until February 11th.

Any club wanting to take Santos on loan would have to wait until at least mid February and with loan spots being vital to some sides the risk might not be as desirable.

Another possible implication of any future loan is if Santos plays in Saturday’s FA Cup tie against Championship side Preston North-End. FIFA rules state a player can be registered to 3 clubs per season but is only eligible to play for 2 clubs in competitive competition.

There is a slight workaround regarding the loan rules as there is a possibility he could play for Chelsea and then go to a league which has yet to get underway but that would only further hinder his overall development.

With Andrey already playing 12 Premier League minutes for Nottingham Forest, a cameo or start in the cup for Chelsea would throw another spanner in the works.
