Player ratings: Chelsea 0-0 Aston Villa (FA Cup R4)

A lot of positives to take come the end of the game but unfortunately Friday nights 0-0 draw means we do it all again in just over 10 days time. Plenty of chances wasted, plenty of control and then the typical phase of losing grip on the game all occurred.

Here are my player ratings from Chelsea’s 0-0 draw to Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge.

Petrovic: 9/10- Some big saves, especially at a crucial time when Chelsea were beginning to be on the ropes. Both in the first and second half. The attackers were asleep for a lot of the time but good that Petrovic was on high alert.

Gilchrist: 7/10- Straight forward performance, coming in at late notice for the injured Levi Colwill who picked up a knock in the warm-up. Gilchrist held his ground for the 65 minutes he was on the pitch.

Disasi: 7.5/10- Comfortable performance from someone who has come under the microscope in recent weeks.

Thiago Silva: 7/10-  Decent performance and held his ground. Multiple clearances, comfortable in the air. A couple of worrying moments but we have to factor in the quick turnaround between matches. Careless and needless booking at the start of the game and towards the end was dragged out of position which saw Petrovic make a fantastic stop.

Badiashile: 7/10- One mistake but other than that looked really comfortable at left back. The team looked really controlled down his side until he was shifted back to centre back, then the whole team became imbalanced.

Caicedo- 7/10- A more difficult game for Caicedo and definitely has had better. Lost a lot of his duels in the middle of the pitch and was hesitant at times to perhaps take a shot with a shooting opportunity on display. He can turn defence into attack under pressure with a flick of a switch.

Enzo: 7/10- Fatigued towards the end of the game as the Villa pressure piled on. Similar to Caicedo he lost a lot of his duels and did get run through at times, especially in the 2nd half. Still key to the team going forward.

Gallagher: 6.5/10- Unlucky to not get an assist with a decent cutback but other than that he didn’t offer much going forward at all. Lost possession on too many occasions, won under a third of his duels and also ran through a lot of the time.

Madueke: 7/10- Really impressed with his performance apart from the miss in the first half. Not afraid to drive at defenders and take on his man. Final ball was perhaps lacking but the build up was good. Defensively Madueke was tracking back a lot of the time too.

Palmer: 6.5/10- 2 big opportunities missed which is frustrating given when you play a team like Aston Villa you have to take those valuable chances. Due to Chelsea’s striker crisis he was perhaps playing out of position so his creative aspect can’t go a miss.

Sterling: 7/10- An ok performance from Sterling. Tracked back to assist Badiashile a lot of the time. Kept isolated at times but he was a threat with the ball, just can’t seem to beat a defender on a 1 v 1 as much as we need. Drives into no space unlike Madueke who can make the space himself.

Subs: Chilwell- 5/10, Mudryk- 5/10, Broja- N/A, Carney- N/A
