Player ratings: Aston Villa 1-3 Chelsea (FA Cup R4)

It might have taken 180 minutes but Chelsea got there in the end. The blues are into the 5th round of the FA Cup following a stunning 3-1 victory over Aston Villa. Chelsea should have won the game back at Stamford Bridge but the gulf in overall recovery was on show as Villa at the time were coming into the game off the back of 10 days off.

Here are my player ratings from Chelsea’s 3-1 cup win at Villa Park.

Petrovic: 8/10- Some big saves, especially at a crucial time when Chelsea just took the lead and right before half time. Will be gutted to not have kept a clean sheet which would have been deserved.

Gusto: 8/10- Outstanding once again, controlled the right side and a fantastic cross into Jackson to get an assist. Remains one of the best new signings under the new ownership.

Disasi: 8/10- Comfortable performance from someone who has come under the microscope in recent weeks, seems to play a lot better when Badiashile is alongside him.

Badiashile: 8/10- Looked really controlled and comfortable at centre back. We await to see the extent of his injury which would be a massive blow.

Chilwell: 7/10- Much improved performance especially when his previous 3 performances have been poor. Still has a lot to improve on but a decent bounce back.

Caicedo- 7.5/10- A fantastic performance from someone who has come under intense pressure in recent weeks. Pochettino’s tactical tweaks made sure him and Enzo were deployed closer together and it got the best out of everyone. A couple of cheap fouls that could have been costly.

Enzo Fernandez: 9/10- WOW. What a performance, probably his best in a Chelsea shirt since the opening day draw to Liverpool. Looked more like the Enzo we saw a lot last season. Helped by Pochettino’s approach so we hope if this is just the start.

Gallagher: 8/10- Much better performance from Gallagher, fantastic goal and as well as bringing his usual energy he brought creativity and different type of spark we haven’t seen from him in a while.

Jackson: 8/10- Deployed out on the left, that is credit to Pochettino and he was fantastic. A nuisance to defenders, created a big chance and scored a really well worked goal. It proved we missed his presence whilst he was at AFCON.

Palmer: 7/10- Fairly quiet game by his standards but was deployed on the right. Didn’t do anything wrong.

Madueke: 8/10- Much improved performance from Noni. Inconsistency has creeped in which is normal for young players but he certainly showed no signs of inconsistency last night. As well as an assist and playing a big part in the 2nd goal, Noni also helped Gusto defensively, everyone was working together which was refreshing to see.

Subs: Sterling, Silva, Gilchrist, Nkunku.
